2021 Response |
The second wave of COVID-19 has hit India very hard. It has drastically affected the healthcare system across India and impeded India’s social and economic recovery following the 2020 surge. The second wave has affected almost all dimensions of life across all the society. Many challenges and lacunas are surfaced out highlighting the lack of readiness to successfully withstand such VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) situations. Sewa International with the help of its generous Indian diaspora donors, a strong network of local organisations, and a dedicated volunteer base pan India has accepted the challenge and is mobilizing immediate relief efforts across India. Continuing the same, Sewa International is also working on some long term initiatives to build preventive measures, competency, and resilience within people and systems to deal with such situations in the future. |

Covid-19 T-Model to Fight Problems |
The second wave of COVID-19 has hit India hard. It has impeded India’s social and economic recovery following the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. In the last 30 days, India saw a 6-fold increase in daily cases, and registered the highest single day spike in covid cases in the week of April. With 3 million active cases, the impact of the pandemic can be witnessed all across the country. During this pandemic, the worst affected social group is the urban poor and slum dwellers. Sewa International has built upon its 2020 COVID-19 relief efforts by augmenting its activities. Accordingly, Sewa International decided to work on a T-model intervention for the pandemic: Breadth: Awareness, Essentials and Digital Helpdesk The breadth involves interventions which provide quick relief, and immediately impactful in saving lives and livelihoods. The depth ensures systematic strengthening, long-term sustainability while also providing an immediate layer of protection. |
