The heavy rains that pounded the Konkan region of Maharashtra on July 21 and the resulting floods have taken many lives and caused massive damage to the region. The death toll from the landslides, flash floods and other rain-related incidents has climbed to 207 and an estimated 375,178 people have been displaced from their homes. The torrential rain and landslides affected 1028 villages across the districts of Ratnagiri, Raigad, Kolhapur, Thane, Sangli, Satara, Sindhudurg, Pune, Wardha and the suburban areas of Mumbai. The Konkan region, home to a great culture with a rich legacy of bravery and indomitable spirit needs our help to rebuild. Let us join our hands to help people in distress and Sewa International volunteers are on the ground to provide relief to the grief-stricken people. Your contribution will go a long way in helping those in need. Please do what you can to save lives and support families that have been hit hard by the floods. |
The crisis in Maharashtra is escalating every minute as entire villages and towns are getting submerged in water, water levels are rising above the danger mark, people are going missing and deaths are being reported. Destruction of infrastructure and landslides have also caused a lot of commotion. Maharashtra floods have left people homeless, starving and in a great deal of pain right after the second wave of Covid-19 which they were just recovering from. We urge you to help us provide relief to the disaster stricken districts and people. Every little bit counts. We hope to reach out to as many people as possible, with your help. |
